Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spy Nation?

Spy Nation is a real-world spy game that begins on your phone and continues through your city. You scan mission codes, unlock briefings, and complete challenges that mirror authentic intelligence work. Each mission blends puzzle solving, fieldcraft, and situational awareness.

Is Spy Nation safe to play?

Yes. Missions are designed for normal public environments and require basic common sense. Players must remain aware of their surroundings and take responsibility for their personal safety. Participation is voluntary and at your own risk.

Do I need any special equipment?

No. All you need is your phone and a mission QR code. Certain gear can improve the experience, such as notebooks, compact flashlights, or other optional items found in the Spy Nation Gear section.

How long does a mission take?

Most missions take between forty five and ninety minutes. Your pace and your approach to solving clues will affect the total time.

Can I play alone or with a team?

You can play solo or with a group. Team play often makes missions easier and more enjoyable, especially when clues require multiple perspectives.

Are the missions suitable for families?

Many missions are family friendly. Certain operations may include mild suspense or more complex puzzles, so adults should review the mission briefing before involving younger players. Spy Nation does not include adult content, violence, or anything inappropriate for general audiences. Any suspense elements are light and designed only to enhance the experience, not to frighten or disturb children.

Is Spy Nation based on real intelligence agencies?

Spy Nation is inspired by real tradecraft, historical intelligence operations, and Canadian agencies such as CSIS, CSE, and the intelligence branches of the Canadian Armed Forces. All missions are fictional and are designed for entertainment and education.

Will real actors be involved in missions?

Some future missions may include trained role players who create scenario based interactions. These events will be announced in advance and will remain safe, controlled, and fully fictional.

Do I need to run or perform physical tasks?

No. Missions are designed around observation, decision making, and movement through normal public spaces. Light walking is expected. No advanced physical activity is required unless clearly stated.

How do I start?

Download the Spy Nation app. Create your profile. Scan a mission QR code. Your first briefing will appear immediately.

Where do I find mission locations?

Mission locations are revealed through QR codes placed at partner sites, public areas, or event venues. Some missions may require you to solve a clue before the location is revealed.

Does Spy Nation store my personal information?

Only minimal information is collected to create your profile and operate the app. Spy Nation does not sell or share your data with third parties. Full details are available in the Privacy Policy.

Can businesses host missions?

Yes. Spy Nation works with partner locations to create custom missions that increase foot traffic and engagement. Businesses can contact us at spynationottawa+collab@gmail.com for partnership details.

What happens if I cannot complete a mission?

You can pause a mission for short periods, but once a mission has started it is considered in progress. If you run out of time or cannot complete the required objectives, the mission is marked as failed. There are no refunds for failed or incomplete missions. In some cases you may be able to replay the same operation by starting a new run when it becomes available again. Mission outcomes, including success or failure, are stored on your profile and form part of your Spy Nation record.

Who do I contact for support?

Use the contact form on the website. Provide your mission name and a brief description of the issue. A member of the Spy Nation team will respond as soon as possible.
